Verse 16: Make the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

Devotion

TIME IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE THING WE HAVE, BUT IT’S ALSO THE BLESSING WE WASTE THE MOST! Whewwwww! 😮‍💨 Think for a moment………. IF YESTERDAY HAD BEEN YOUR LAST DAY ALIVE, AND YOU KNEW IT, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY? Hmmmmm? Would you have spent more time with your family? Would you have finally forgiven somebody? Would you have stopped worrying about things you couldn’t change? Would you have prayed more, loved harder, or told somebody how much they meant to you? MY, MY, MY! It’s something how we can live every day as though we have an unlimited supply of tomorrows! But the truth is, NONE OF US KNOWS HOW MUCH TIME WE HAVE LEFT! 🙏🏽

Now, let’s read today’s Scripture together! In Ephesians 5:15–16, Paul instructs believers to be careful about how they live, to walk in wisdom, and to make the most of every opportunity because the days are evil. OOOOOOEW WEEEEE! 🙌🏽🔥 In other words, PAY ATTENTION TO HOW YOU’RE SPENDING YOUR LIFE! Paul wasn’t simply talking about keeping a busy schedule. He was teaching us to live intentionally, with wisdom, recognizing that every day presents opportunities to do what is right and pleasing to God. BECAUSE BEING BUSY DOESN’T NECESSARILY MEAN YOU’RE BEING PRODUCTIVE! Whewwwww! You can spend an entire day doing a whole lot of things and still neglect what matters most!

Let’s be honest! How much time have we wasted being angry with somebody who probably isn’t even thinking about us? 😩 How many hours have we spent worrying about something that never happened? How much time have we given to scrolling through social media, entertaining gossip, comparing our lives to somebody else’s, or replaying yesterday’s disappointments? AND BEFORE YOU KNOW IT, ANOTHER DAY IS GONE! MY, MY, MY! Now, there’s nothing wrong with resting, laughing, enjoying life, or taking time for yourself. But there IS something wrong when distractions continually take priority over the things God has placed in our hands to do! WE HAVE TO STOP GIVING OUR BEST TIME TO THINGS THAT DON’T DESERVE IT! 🙌🏽

And here’s something else! SOME OF US KEEP PUTTING OFF THINGS THAT WE SHOULD BE DOING TODAY! We’ll call Mama tomorrow. We’ll apologize next week. We’ll start spending more time with our children when things slow down. We’ll get serious about our relationship with God when life becomes less busy. We’ll finally pursue that purpose God placed in our hearts SOMEDAY! BUT WHEN IS SOMEDAY?! 😩 Whewwwww! Tomorrow is not promised, and yesterday cannot be recovered! Think about the people who would give anything to have just ONE MORE conversation with someone they’ve lost. One more hug. One more opportunity to say, “I love you.” DON’T WAIT UNTIL SOMETHING IS GONE TO RECOGNIZE HOW VALUABLE IT WAS! OOOOOOEW WEEEEE! 🙌🏽♥️

And please understand this! MAKING THE MOST OF TODAY DOESN’T MEAN TRYING TO DO EVERYTHING TODAY! It means being wise about what deserves your time and attention. Sometimes the most valuable thing you can do is pray. Sometimes it’s showing up for somebody who needs you. Sometimes it’s completing an assignment you’ve been putting off. And sometimes it’s getting the rest your body needs so you can continue doing what God has called you to do! EVERY DAY DOESN’T HAVE TO BE FILLED WITH ACTIVITY TO BE FILLED WITH PURPOSE! Ask yourself, “Am I spending my time doing what matters, or am I allowing things that don’t matter to consume my time?” Because TIME SPENT IS TIME YOU CANNOT GET BACK! Whewwwww! 🙏🏽

So today, I want to encourage you to STOP LIVING LIKE YOU HAVE FOREVER TO DO WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN YOU TIME TO DO RIGHT NOW! Love your family. Forgive where forgiveness is needed. Make that phone call. Be kind to somebody. Spend time in God’s Word. Stop allowing fear, procrastination, and unnecessary distractions to keep you from living the life God has blessed you with! And don’t spend so much time regretting yesterday that you waste today too! YOU CANNOT CHANGE YESTERDAY, AND YOU CANNOT CONTROL TOMORROW, BUT YOU CAN MAKE BETTER CHOICES WITH THE TIME GOD HAS GIVEN YOU TODAY! HALLELUJAH TO OUR LORD! 🙌🏽💙 DON’T JUST COUNT YOUR DAYS. MAKE YOUR DAYS COUNT!

✍🏽 Reflect & Respond

  1. If yesterday had been my last day, what would I regret not doing?

  2. What distractions, worries, or unnecessary conflicts have been consuming too much of my time?

  3. What is one meaningful thing I can do today that I’ve been putting off?

TODAY’S QUESTION:

AM I TRULY MAKING THE MOST OF THE TIME GOD HAS GIVEN ME, OR AM I JUST LETTING THE DAYS PASS BY?

Today, be intentional! Make that call, offer that apology, spend time with someone you love, or take one step toward something God has placed on your heart.

DON’T WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW TO APPRECIATE THE BLESSING OF TODAY! 🙌🏽♥️

🙏🏽 Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing me with another day of life. Forgive me for the time I’ve wasted on things that don’t matter. Lord, teach me to live wisely and intentionally, making the most of every opportunity You give me. Help me stop procrastinating, worrying about tomorrow, and dwelling on yesterday. Give me wisdom to recognize what truly deserves my time and the discipline to follow through. LORD, HELP ME NOT TO WASTE THE GIFT OF TODAY! May my time, choices, and actions bring glory to You. In Jesus Christ’s name, Amen. 🙏🏽💙
